Are you a photographer who already has a foundational knowledge of lighting, exposure, composition...all the things that make a solid photographer? But you want to take it to the next level? Let's take what you know, make it work for pets, and make it better! For this class, we are actually going to do a Zoom meeting together sometime before we meet to brainstorm a theme, so I can pull together items to design a small set with, set up the light for, bring in several pets, and photograph them using different lighting techniques and posing skills, and if there's time, we will even talk thru different editing techniques. If there isn't time in class, we will schedule a short Zoom follow up afterwards to at least share some images with each other.
Attendees should bring:
Be sure you include your PPA number on your registration. PPA members who participate in this workshop will be awarded a merit for attending.
Don't miss this chance to work with Angela on improving your craft!
Angela Lawson is an International Award Winning photographer, a Certified Professional Photographer, and has earned her Photographic Craftsman and Master of Photography Degrees thru PPA. She has also earned her Accredited Professional of Animal Imagery from the International Society of Animal Photographers. Angela is currently working toward her Master Artist Degree and her Master of Animal Imagery degree. She took the judges training workshop in March 2022 and is currently a juror in training as well. She has also had her art displayed at ArtPrize (which is an open art competition, in which hundreds of artists from all over the world display their work throughout the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan).
Angela started in photography 25 plus years ago, back in the days of film, and has seen many changes in the industry. Along with industry changes, she has had several large focus changes in her own business. In 2013, she found herself narrowing her focus to several specialties, pet portraiture being the one to take the lead. Having worked as a veterinary assistant for several years (as she was just learning photography), working for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources as a volunteer animal rehab foster home, as well as volunteering at several Humane Societies and animal rescue organizations, she has a unique perspective on how to work with animals. It doesn’t hurt that she has a soft spot for anything with fur, feathers, or even scales!
Angela is currently a PPA Council Member, was on the PPA Certification Committee, was a CPP Liaison for PPA for many years, is a current member of Professional Photographers of Michigan, and Past President of Professional Photographers of Western Michigan. She is also a member of the International Society of Animal Photographers, where she holds a seat on the board and as a committee member.
